Republican vs. Republican

Why are Republicans likely to continue to lose their seats in Congress and possibly the Presidency in 2008?  Will the Republican leadership continue to compromise with the Democrats in order to create the appearance "something is getting done in Washington?"  I say every indication is yes.  This is precisely why the Republicans are likely to continue to lose.

The Republicans in Congress appear more concerned about playing politics as opposed to exercising decisive conservative  leadership at every level.  The Democrats are in the position they are because they are willing to be polarizing and they are willing to demagogue issues and their opponents.  Am I saying the Republicans should be polarizing demagogues?  Yes and no.

A conservative must consistently stand on principle and if that means he is polarizing - so be it.  A conservative must also do what he says he is going to do.  The conservative base is not pacified or forgiving of individuals who do not do what they say they will do.

If Republicans are to win the Presidency and a majority in Congress in 2008, then they will have to energize their base and create a grassroots movement centered around conservative principles and conservative leadership.  Are we still looking for authentic conservative leaders for the Republican Party?  I think so.
